Relations of Jan Sakes Timmermans
Help for Family Relations
This page shows the different family relationships between the person to be examined and other persons in the database.
1. Ancestors
Creates a list of ancestors of the Nth generation. The person investigated is the 1st generation, his parents 2th, his grandparents 3th etc. Theoretically, the number of ancestors in each generation is a power of 2, e.g. 2-4-8-16. If the number is smaller than expected, that is a consequence of marriages within the same family, usually between cousins.
2. Offspring
A listing of all offspring in the Nth generation, 2th are children, 3th grandchildren etc.
3. Brothers and Sisters
Shows brothers and sisters, children from the persons father and mother. But no half-brothers and -sisters.
4. Brothers and Sisters in Law
Spouses of the brothers and sisters.
5. Uncles and Aunts
Shows all Uncles and Aunts of the person under examination, brothers and sisters from the persons father and mother
6. Cousins
Shows all cousins, children of Uncles and Aunts
7. Nephews and Nieces
Shows Nephews and Nieces, children from the persons brothers and sisters.
Kinskip
A tool to calculate the theoretical genetic relationship between two people. the accuracy depends on the number of common ancestors in the database, and is highest in individuals from one of my ancestor families, namely; van der Veen, van der Meulen, Kamstra and van der Wal. Persons to compare with are listed, this list is automatically created when visiting people's pages or searching for people. In addition, the ID of a person can be entered.
The relationship is tested for lineal kinship, meaning person 1 is a descendant or an ancestor of person 2, and for collateral kinship, meaning that person 1 and person 2 have 1 or more common ancestors.
The result shows the type and degree of kinship. The degreee is the number of generations between person 1 and person 2 in case of lineal kinship, or the sum of the generations between person 1, person 2 and common ancestors. In the latter case, the degree for each person is indicated by G1=(degree) and G2=(degree). It is possible that ancestors occur more then once, in this case we speak of multiple lines to an ancestor, usually as a result of cousin marriages in intermediate generations. This is indicated foar each person by L1=(lines) and L2=(lines). L=2 is normal, it means that an ancestor couple occurs only once.
